“This rapid-fire, timed writing process cracked me right open”

Mollie’s Story

Mollie McNeil

My doctoral program in English left me bruised from nonstop critique, shutting down my writing practice for years. It wasn’t until I discovered raw writing circles and began to share my work with groups of like-minded creatives that I loosened up and was able to free my voice and write my best stories.

In the past, I have taught at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Mills College, and De Anza College. Currently, I lead workshops at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, the Modern Elder Academy in Mexico, and classes for 27 Powers, in addition to private workshops online and in person in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I also write fiction. My short stories have been published in Blue Lake Review, Crack the Spine, Diverse Voices Quarterly, The Diverse Arts Project, Hawaii Pacific Review, Jet Fuel Review, and Ragazine. I’m currently finishing up a coming-of-age novel set in Northern California at the turn-of-the 20th century.
